A damp meter is a product that is used very often. Most of the time it is used to see if a wall contains much moisture. If the wall contains much moisture, it is also used to find out why and how this happened. Of course the device itself cannot determine why the wall has to much moisture, but the people that work with the damp meter can make conclusions out of the results taken with the damp meter.
Pin versus pin less damp meter
A meter has usually two metal pins on the top of the device. With those two pins you can penetrate the object. For example you need to push the two metal pins in a wooden log to get the results. And a pin less meter uses a sensor pad, that means you do not have to damage the object. You can measure by placing the meter on top of the object. Both of those types have their own benefits, see below for more information.
A damp meter with pins works with resistance. When the two pins are inserted in the object and the test is started, the pins will try to connect with each other. Depending on the time that the two connectors reach each other it knows how much damp there is in the object. There always need to be a few test, and take the average of those tests. This is because if the pins are inserted in a few different places that the result can be different.
Pin less meters measure with electromagnetic signals. You have to put the meter on the object that you would like to measure. The range of a pin less damp meter is much larger then a pin meter. Another big benefit is that you don’t have to damage the object you would like to measure.
